What is the best color highlight for dark brown?

I died my hair last week and it came out very dark brown which is darker than my natural color and dont like it.(I used revlon ammonium free). I dont want to die my entire hair again . I was wondering if I can use very light brown highlight from L'oreal and just highligted my hair to make it look bit lighter. Does it damage my hair?What is the best color highlight for dark brown?
